Sunny Tuesday

With the sun in my face and the wind in my hair, and the wife sitting comfy in the car we had a drive down to the river, which has gone very quiet lately. The most notable arrival is the NAO Protector, which i must say is a mighty fine looking vessel.

Then we have Vos Scout looking a little sad in the angry looking cloud.

And last of the new arrivals was Putford Saviour

Am also thinking of having a prize draw for Christmas but have no idea what it could be, so if you guys have any suggestions then please drop me a line as my inbox is a little empty, just leave a note at the bottom of the post and we can see what we can think of, Happy Shipping everyone.

Weekly Round Up

Due to a bereavement im a bit late with my intended post so have decided to do a weekly round up.
Firstly last weekend was the Great Yarmouth maritime festival, which promised so much but delivered very little. We was promised river trips again this year but that didn't happen, which is a big draw for most people, secondly the tours of new Esvagt vessel was mishandled with all tours having been booked in advance for the Saturday, when the best way was to book on the day as many who came especially for this were turned away. Surely a better way than what was on offer. Apart from the overpriced food stalls the whole event was a bit of a let down, and in my opinion has run its time.
Dont get me wrong many people enjoyed the event but many i overheard said it was a bit of a let down, and not worth making the trip here for. We are all entitled to our opinions.
However i did manage to meet the captain of the new Esvagt ship who was a very nice man and rightly proud of his new charge.

Other arrivals and departures were caught by Paul who i once again thank for his contribution to the blog, he has some new videos on his you tube Chanel which can be found on the right of the blog.

Weekend taking shape.

With only another two days until the maritime festival starts, things are starting to take shape, most notably the arrival of Esvagt Sov looking resplendent straight from the shipyard. Luckily Paul was here to capture her arriving at lunchtime.

The lucky few that have been able to book can go on board her over the weekend, a very interesting tour im sure it will be. Myself will be going on the Regal Lady for a river trip, excellent photo opportunity there i think. For those that are coming a good day is highly likely, and for the fish lovers out there its a good opportunity to try the local yarmouth delicacy that is smoked herring. will do a full post on the events after the weekend. Also while Paul was here he managed to capture some other arrivals and some in port already, Thanks Paul, great shoots as always.

Malaviya Twenty impounded. ( official )

For some time now she has been tied up with no sign of life, it has now been confirmed that she has been impounded by International transport workers federation with assistance from the maritime and coastguard agency. It seems the ships medical certificate had expired, as well as records of wages missing. At one point there was £175,000 owed to past and present crew, wages for August are due by September 15th before any action can be made to release her from her enforced stay with us.
It is commonly known the the offshore industry in the UK is not in a good place in these uncertain times and that things will get worse before they get better. But for a company to withhold wages for staff who have family's to support is a situation they should never have got themselves into as your staff are your biggest asset. Im sure given time this will rectify itself and she will be on her way back out to sea, but this does show what a precarious business the shipping industry can be.

Seafarers uk

We all need a little help from time to time, and the brave people that go to sea every day can sometimes fall on hard times. If not them there family, so have decided to set a donation point on the website for anyone who would like to contribute towards this good cause. All money raised will go straight to the charity to help continue there good work. Here we have a taste of what they do.

As an ‘island nation’ we depend on our seafarers to defend our shores, trade with other countries and import essential fuel and food. The job of a seafarer is therefore vital, but also demanding and hazardous with a much greater chance of injury than many other professions. A large number of those serving will be facing problems of very different kinds: long periods of separation from friends and family, extended periods of duty, fatigue, and working heavy machinery whilst being exposed to harsh weather.
Such dangers and difficulties can lead to disability, depression, debt, relationship breakdown, homelessness or even death. Our funding enables seafarers to access advice and information, adapt to life on shore, re-train and find new employment. It also improves their quality of life by helping to provide the essentials of daily living that a small pension (or none) cannot cover. Often it may be the family of a seafarer who has been injured, held hostage or who has subsequently passed away that require assistance. Because Seafarers UK works closely with all of the organisations that support seafarers and their dependants, we can target donations where they will make the biggest difference. Seafarers UK receives no government funding and relies on donations and fundraising to be able to carry on providing long-term aid. Without this, there simply wouldn’t be the level of support we are able to provide today and that last year gave hope and help to over 170,000 seafarers and their families when they needed it most.

Photos by Paul.

As i am not able to get to the river and port as much as i would like to my dear friend Paul Hiett has kindly agreed to let me put some of his photos on here for you guys. Paul drives up here quiet often and always manages to get some good shoots while he is here. It helps me out knowing there is two of us getting the pictures for the blog, so Paul thank you very much.
He also has a you tube channel which i will put a link to when i can, very worthwhile as well as he has video from Great Yarmouth and places down towards the Thames.
Here is a taste of Paul's photos

Hot and sunny

With the end of my long weekend coming to an end i decided to do a trip around to photo what was in port, rather quiet today but lovely in the hot summer sun. Long term resident Malaviya Twenty is still in port. There was talk the ship had been impounded with regard to crew wages. How true that is i don't know but if true could be the reason she has been here so long now.
Seen entering port before her long lay up

We also seem to have an abundance of small crew boats in at the moment, either taking new crew or under repair. Rix Leopard, MPI Snowball, MPI Napoleon,Cerys Line to name but a few.

Further up the river was a little empty apart from the usual visit of Putford Voyager.
.

The other notable visitor is the newly renamed Wilchief 1 who was formally named Red Allience 7

Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival 2016

The main sipping event of the year is just around the corner over the weekend of 10th and 11th of September. Its a free event but a £1 donation on entry is normally the done thing. There are lots to do with ships to go on board including the newly launched Esvagt Sov. Also river trips on the Regal Lady. As well as trips on sailing ship Earl of Pembroke, ( Fees Apply )
So if your in the area come and enjoy a day by the river, eat some fresh herring, listen to the shanty singers, and enjoy the trade stands and local beer. Unfortunately its my weekend to work so will sadly miss this great event, so if anyone takes any photos send them in and i will put them on the blog.
